CHAIN GEARS

In this tutorial, we will look at cylindrical gears with inclined teeth. In these wheels, the teeth are cut at an angle to the axis of rotation and each individual tooth represents a sector of a spiral. This allows two wheels to work together without their axles being parallel. The advantage is that they have a higher load capacity and wear resistance, because the teeth interact over a larger area.

This is due to the fact that when rotating the individual teeth engage much more smoothly and generate less noise. They are used for heavily loaded high-speed gears that require low noise levels, such as car gearboxes. Their disadvantage is that when engaged, they cause large axial forces, which require the respective bearings to take the load. Refer to the library for more information on cylindrical bevel gears.
