Belt Drives

In this tutorial we will look at belt drives. A belt drive is used to transmit motion and torque from one shaft to another by means of a flexible element (belt) using friction forces. It consists of two belt pulleys and an endless belt that covers the pulleys.

The advantages of belt drives are their simple construction at large wheelbases, work smoothly and silently, provide elastic connection between the shafts, which reduces vibrations and shocks. gears are their larger dimensions, relatively short belt life, higher shaft loads. Refer to the library for more information on belt drives.
